A few posts ago I mentioned that I had the Kubuntu boot and shutdown screen. Well, I fixed it with some information provided by forestpiskie
Seems plymouth had it settings wrong. All I had to do was enter the following command in terminal:
sudo update-alternatives –config default.plymouth
Then I selected the Ubuntu option (in my case it was option 2). Pretty simple fix to a really annoying problem
Thanks again forestpiskie.
A warning sign,
I missed the good part then I realized,
I started looking and the bubble burst.
I started looking for excuses.Come on in,
I’ve gotta tell you what a state I’m in,
I’ve gotta tell you in my loudest tones,
That I started looking for a warning sign.A warning sign,
You came back to haunt me and I realized
you were an island and I passed you by,
You were an island to discover. When the truth is,
I miss you.
Yeah the truth is,
That I miss you so.And I’m tired,
I should not have let you go.
I quit drinking about a month ago. I’ve been t-total sober ever since. I really want one so badly right NOW. This is probably the first evening since I quit where I have been seriously considering opening up a bottle of wine. I don’t know why this feeling has come over me all of a sudden. Good thing its late here and I soon shall be going to bed. I shall not be touching a drop.
What was the point of this post?
I’m not really sure to be honest. I just felt like sharing how I felt at just gone 11pm on a Thursday night. I feel better just for having this written down somewhere, if you get what I mean. Its like its not trapped inside of me, I have let it out. Acknowledging to myself that I am winning this struggle. The body craves because I am starving it of what it thinks it wants. Hopefully it will give up soon, my mind controls my body. That probably doesn’t make sense either…
That is a bit of an overstatement, but essentially true.
Songbird was once an open source audio player for the Linux platform. It was announced on here on their blog that it is discontinuing support. The announcement does mention that they will still maintain a small Linux build but it will not be tested.
Extract:
After careful consideration, we’ve come to the painful conclusion that we should discontinue support for the Linux version of Songbird. Some of you may wonder how a company with deep roots in Open Source could drop Linux and we want you to know it isn’t without heartache.? We have a small engineering team here at Songbird, and, more than ever, must stay very focused on a narrow set of priorities. Trying to deliver a raft of new features around all media types, and across a growing list of devices, we had to make some tough choices.
My feeling is that Songbird will be developed primarily for the Windows platform. Thankfully they are still remaining open source (for the time being at least). I don’t think this is going to send shock waves across the Linux family, mainly because so many other Media players exist.
Is this how I feel?
Who put the weight of the world on my shoulders?
Who put the lies in the truth that you sold us?Lost behind a silver screen
are all the things you could’ve been to usSo don’t try to fuck up my head with your problems
I’m just tryin’ to fix up my bed in the doldrumsLost behind a silver screen
are all the things you could’ve been in Love and LifeHelp me out my friend
My head just started to hurt
I don’t pretend
I’ve got all of the time in the world
So now she’s gone
all alone in her own universe
I still walk on
‘Til I hold you within my world
Well, title says it all really.
After I updated my Lucid install yesterday my netbook now has the Kubuntu loading screen. Thankfully the operating system is still Ubuntu. I guess an update will be released sharpish in an attempt to rectify this error. I suppose I should also mention that the netbook was a lot more responsive prior to the updates too. Oh well, not the end of the world. I shall just have to see what updates come my way
EDIT: This has been fixed - Read this (15th May 2010)
Random observation of the week:
I have a spam filter on this blog. It seems that 99% of the spam I get is caused by 1 or more images being in the post. This got me wondering just how much spam do the images attract.
How are you going to do that?
I am (temporarily) going to allow all spam that attaches to this entry. I will edit the entry to read “SPAM” as I don’t want to allow any gain to others for spamming this post.
The post below is a duplicate of this post but includes an image. It will be interesting to see which of the posts attracts more spam comments.

I am also going to copy this post but not include an image. The same rules on spam will apply. It will be interesting to see which of the posts attracts more spam comments.
Have you ever felt some kind of emptiness inside
You will never measure up, to those people
You must be strong, can’t show them that you’re weak
Have you ever told someone something
That’s far from the truth
Let them know that you’re okay
Just to make them stop
All the wondering, and questions they may haveHave you ever seen your face,
In a mirror there’s a smile
But inside you’re just a mess,
You feel far from good
Need to hide, ‘cos they’d never understand
Have you ever had this wish, of being
Somewhere else
To let go of your disguise, all your worries too
And from that moment, then you see things clearAre you waiting for the day
When your pain will disappear
When you know that it’s not true
What they say about you
You could not care less about the things
Surrounding you
Ignoring all the voices from the wallsJust needed some time, to figure things out
Still we don’t know what’s yet to come
I got listening to this song and simply loved the lyrics. It made me thing about the people we owe so much too. If I can find a copy of the song I will post it.
On your maypole green
See the winding morris men
Angry Alfie, Bill and Ken
Waving hankies, sticks and books
All the earthen roofsStanding at the crease
The batsman takes a look around
The boys are fielding on home ground
The steeple sharp against the blue
When I think of youSam and Andy
Jack and John
Charlie, Martin
Jamie, Ron
Harry, Stephen
Will and Don
Matthew, MichaelOn and on
We will remember them
Remember them
Remember themTime has slipped away
The Summer sky to Autumn yields
A haze of smoke across the fields
Let’s sup and fight another round
And walk the stublbed groundWhen November brings
The poppies on Remembrance Day
When the vicar comes to say
May god bless them everyone
Lest we forget our sonsWe will remember them
Remember them
Remember them
