Snow…Meh

On January 6, 2010, in Thoughts, by s.fox

Its snowing.  Again.  I wonder how long until a national emergency is declared.  Might get to 2″.

Well apart from the weather not a great deal is happening this week.   First day back at work on Monday,  fun.  Pretty much everything was okay on the Monday regarding the VAT changes across the systems.  Had a meeting that lasted over 2 hours.   Sort of like looking forward into the year.  Looks like I am going to be quite busy indeed.

UBT is same as ever.  Things pretty much ticking over nicely.  Minor note that is I chaired the last team meeting.  Logs can be found here.   It was a good experience for the most part.   I have decided that running a meeting on IRC is far different from real life.   I was happy to have a chance to use Mootbot for the first time.   My theory was finally put into practice.

I was supposed to go to the cinema today but the weather has altered things somewhat.   I was planning to see the Sherlock Holmes film.  I have rescheduled for next week.   Gives me something to look forward to I guess. :)

#! Crunchbang Linux & New Laptop =]

On January 3, 2010, in Thoughts, by s.fox

I have a new laptop. :D I bought it during the yule sales. Pretty swish too. For those interested its a brand new Sony Vaio. Here are the specifications:

  • Intel Pentium Processor T4300 / 2.10 GHz
  • 320 Gig hard drive
  • 4 Gig RAM
  • 15.5″ Widescreen Display
  • Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M

Its got a lovely keyboard to type with too. Each key individually raised like you would get on a macbook. Fantastic machine, really happy with it.

It also came with the new Windows 7. Knowing how well I get on with Windows machines when they go wrong I elected to repartition the hard drive. Kept the windows recovery bit and removed everything else. That left me with the problem of what operating system to use. I have been doing a lot of reading about #!Crunchbang lately and I decided to take the plunge. A quick install later and I am smitten. Its so clean, so minimal, so professional looking. Oh and its not brown ;)

EVERYTHING worked out of the box which was nice. Well except that I had a minor issue with the wifi suddenly cutting out at random moments and not connecting again until restarting the laptop. I was able to fix this by replacing the network manager with WICD. I must say that its a very nice light weight network manager.

I also must say thank you to starcraft.man who helped me setup a virtual machine. I have never done anything like it before and have been put off by all the “confusing” bits of information I have come across with regards to setup. Nice and simple to do and virtually painless :) Thank you!

Been messing around with GIMP.  More black and white from me, though some say I should use more colour.  I personally think that this image has a lot of colour in it.  You just have to look for it. =]

Same Size Feet

On January 2, 2010, in Thoughts, by s.fox

A weeks too long, not to ring
Re-colours her hair, and waits for him
Not cat against dog, just head over heels
Sex twice a day, best time in years
Oh no, why hasn’t he phoned?
She has to wait until he’s on his own
Lying and Denying so nobody knows
I’ll tell her this week is what he tells
Her to keep her on loan
He’ll buy her one day

Sex drives, oral highs, cheating wife’s spouse
Cream cakes, coffee dates, floral gifts, goodbye
Pass the way for the day had a change of kind
Sex change, to mundane for the average mind
Oh no, she just can’t see
Where he is and where he’s been
Looked prim and straight
Like she’s always been

All that she saved for went missing again
She could be, she could be, she could be wrong
It looks like, it looks like, it looks like the worlds gone wrong

They found a body in the lake
Maybe it wasn’t really his name
Same colour, same weight, same size feet
It’s the not knowing that kills you
Oh no the clocks stopped slow, everytime you’re on your own
Ya’ hide from the spies so nobody knows
Scratch through the pages on the lazy days news for a clue
Still looking for you
